Effective mentorship is critical to the professional development of students and junior faculty. At WVU we offer a variety of training opportunities, and we recognize the value of the online asynchronous training modules offered free of charge by the National Research Mentoring Network and (NRMN) and the University of Minnesota.

Mentoring Workshop SeriesWVCTSI Mentorship Development Program (MDP)
The WVCTSI Mentorship Development Program (MDP) offers workshops to develop and enhance mentoring relationships for faculty who are currently conducting clinical and translational research. The MDP program will also provide workshops geared toward mentees who are looking to enhance their skills to become a more effective mentee.
MDP is offering a special hands-on workshop on October 23, 2025: "Building Strong Mentoring Teams: A Workshop for Mentees & Mentors."
This hands-on workshop provides mentees and mentors with time to reflect, share insights, and develop strategies that maximize the success of their mentoring teams. Participants may attend individually, with their mentor(s) or mentee(s), or as part of a mentoring team. All levels of trainees and mentors, regardless of experience, are welcome.This event will take place from in room 2940B of the WVU Health Sciences Center North from 3 to 5 p.m. on Thursday, October 23.
By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:
- Recognize core competencies for effective mentorship in academic career development.
- Strengthen mentor–mentee communication and apply strategies to navigate common challenges.
- Explore the value of mentoring teams and identify practical ways to collaborate within them.
- Create a personalized “Mentoring Toolkit” with resources to support lasting and successful relationships.
