Mentorship Training

Effective mentorship is critical to the professional development of students and junior faculty. At WVU we offer a variety of synchronous and asynchronous training opportunities, and we recognize the value of the online asynchronous training modules offered free of charge by the National Research Mentoring Network and (NRMN) and the University of Minnesota.

  • Ethics of Mentoring and Mentoring in Ethics, 1:00-2:00 on September 12, 2024

Mentor Training Workshop

Typically offered in spring, the Mentor Training Workshop is offered by the Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE).

Mentorship Development Program (MDP)

Mentorship Development Program (MDP) is offered by the West Virginia Clinical and Translational Science Institute (WVCTSI).

Mentoring and Healthy Research Environments (CITI Training)

Discusses mentoring and why it is essential to research, factors that can make mentoring relationships challenging, and practices and strategies mentors and mentees can use to establish and navigate mentor-mentee relationships successfully. The module also describes a psychologically healthy and supportive research environment and the leadership behaviors mentors can use to create positive research environments.

National Research Mentoring Network (NRMN)

Through their national network, they implement and disseminate innovative, evidence-based best practices to improve mentoring relationships at institutions across the country.
